Developmental Check List

Social / Emotional
__|-Gives objects on request.
__|-Imitates hand and face gestures such as waving "bye-bye", clapping hands, closing eyes.
__|-Helps with dressing by putting arms out for sleeves and feet for shoes.
__|-Seeks and finds hidden toys easily.
__|-Is affectionate toward familiar people.
Motor (Fine)
__|-Holds spoon but needs help with its use.
__|-Puts blocks in and out of a small box.
__|-Uses pincer grasp (thumb and index finger) to pick up small objects or pieces of food.
__|-Points with index finger toward desired objects.
__|-Uses both hands freely but may demonstrate a preference for one.
Motor (Gross)
__|-Pulls to standing position and lets self down by holding on to furniture.
__|-May stand alone for a few seconds.
__|-Sits well for an indefinite period of time.
__|-May creep on all 4's.
__|-May walk independently.
Communication
__|-Imitates adult's playful sound making.
__|-Recognizes own name and turns to speaker when hearing it.
__|-Follows simple directions: "Give it to Mommy," "Come to Daddy," "Clap hands."
__|-Babbles a lot with rhythm and variations in pitch.
Vision
__|-Recognizes familiar people at a distance of 20 feet or more.
__|-Watches intently small toys that are pulled across the floor at a distance of 10 feet away.

18 Months

__|-Raises and holds cup with 2 hands
__|-Drinks from a cup without spilling.
__|-Removes shoes, socks, cap.
__|-Imitates familiar actions such as sweeping floor, dusting, reading a book.
__|-Amuses self, but prefers to be near an adult.
__|-Alternates between independence and dependence on care giver.
Motor (Fine)
__|-Scribbles with a crayon on paper.
__|-Can build a tower with 3 blocks after a demonstration.
__|-Picks up very small objects and food immediately on sight.
__|-Explores objects more frequently with hands than mouth.
Motor (Gross)
__|-Pushes and pulls large objects.
__|-Walks but with feet slightly apart.
__|-Can do 2 things at once--carry a large object and walk with it.
__|-Climbs into a large chair, rotates body, and sits in it.
__|-May creep backward when going down stairs.
Communication
__|-Speaks 6 to 20 recognizable words.
__|-Likes nursery rhymes and joins in.
__|-Echoes the last word spoken to him/her. "Talks" to self while.
__|-playing.
__|-Enjoys picture books.
__|-May point to 2 or 3 parts (eyes, nose, hair, shoes) on doll or self.
Vision
__|-Fixes eyes on and recovers a rolling ball 10 feet away.
__|-Points to distant objects out of doors.

__|-Removes wrapper from a cupcake or candy bar.

__|-Imitates a vertical line with a crayon on paper.
__|-Turns pages in a book one at a time.
__|- Picks up tiny objects as small as a crumb.

__|-Runs on whole foot, but can stop, start and run around obstacles easily.
__|-Climbs stairs holding onto the railing (walks 2 feet to each step).

__|-Asks questions "who," "what," "where?"
__|-Enjoys listening to stories and wants favorite ones repeated over and over.
__|-Recites nursery rhymes.
__|-Uses plurals.
__|-Uses large vocabulary but speech may contain mis-articulations.
__|-Engages in a simple conversation.
__|-Talks about past experiences.
__|-Uses pronouns "I, me, you" correctly.
__|-Eager to talk about self and experiences with some stuttering not uncommon.

__|-Matches 2 to 3 primary colors (usually red and yellow).
